Biography

Mezzosoprano Lilia Istratii makes her debut at the National Theatre as Bizet's Carmen on 28 August 2025.

Recent career highlights include Lilia’s debut as Carmen at Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, Olga in Eugene Onegin at the Polish National Opera, Verdi's Messa da Requiem and Bruckner's Missa in F with Philharmonie Luxembourg, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly at Baden-Baden Festival and with Berliner Philharmoniker, Rosette in Manon at Teatro Regio Torino, Sesto in La clemenza di Tito at the Bucharest National Opera, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus and Polina in Pique dame at Craiova Opera, Romania, Fenena in Nabucco at Teatr Wielki Warsaw. Lilia’s repertoire performed on various stages includes Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Fenena in Nabucco, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Lola in Cavalleria rusticana, Maddalena in Rigoletto, and Lyubasha in The Tsar’s Bride, among others. Liliana was born and raised in the Republic of Moldova. She is a graduate of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chisinau.
