Biography

Ladislav Cmorej is a renowned Slovak dancer, choreographer and educator. Within his very first collaboration with the National Theatre in Prague, he will create the choreography for the production of the operetta Ball im Savoy, scheduled to premiere in the 2022/23 season (on 16 September 2022) at the State Opera. Over the long term, Ladislav Cmorej has worked with the stage director and choreographer Ján Ďurovčík, with the most noteworthy shows he has danced in being The Fire Bird and Carmen at the Slovak Dance Theatre, with which he has travelled all over the world. He has also performed in opera and drama productions at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava (e.g. Partybreakers, The Tomcat on Roller Skates, Le Roi s'amuse, Die Zauberflöte), as well as in a number of international projects. Moreover, he has created choreographies for the musicals Fame, Hairspray and Cats (New Stage, Bratislava), Carmen à la Gypsy Devils (Slovak National Theatre), Letters to Emil (Studio L+S, Bratislava), Footloose (Divadlo na Orlí, Brno), Rebecca and Harpagon Is the Miser? (National Moravian-Silesian Theatre, Ostrava), and The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Summer Shakespeare Festival, Prague). He has also choreographed numerous commercial projects and television programmes. Ladislav Cmorej is the artistic director and choreographer of the Credance company. He has taught at the Letavy summer international dance workshops (held since 1985) and worked with Slovakia’s Divé maky association, supporting gifted Roma children and youth.
