
Karola Sophia Schmid

Soprano Karola Sophia Schmid is at home both on the opera stage and in concert. In addition to permanent engagements at the State Theatres in Kassel and Darmstadt, she has made guest appearances at the Cologne Opera, the Mannheim National Theatre, the Hanover State Opera and regularly at the Kiel Theatre, where she has worked with conductors such as Václav Luks, Rubén Dubrovsky, Yoel Gamzou and Sir Jeffrey Tate. Highlights of the current season include Micaëla in a new production of Carmen (directed by Vera Nemirova, conducted by Marcus Bosch), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Kiel Theatre and a new production of Handel’s Alcina at the Darmstadt State Theatre. At the newly founded Opernfestspiele am Saarpolygon, she will be heard as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte under the direction of Stefano Poda (conducted by Marcus Bosch). Concert engagements include, for example, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis at the Tonhalle Zurich, C. Ph. E. Bach’s Magnificat at the Cologne Philharmonie and Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. Karola Sophia Schmid received her vocal training from Ulla Groenewold, with whom she continues to work closely.
