Karla Bytnarová

Biography

Guest of the National Theatre Opera. The mezzosoprano Karla Bytnarová studied at the Conservatory in Pardubice under professor Svatava Šubrtová. She continued her education at the Conservatory of Richard Strauss in Munich where she graduated with honors. Her professor was Andrej Kucharský, an excellent vocalist and teacher. She won several international singing competitions, such as Antonín Dvořák in Karlovy Vary (twice) and in 1998 a prize by Václav Klaus, the speaker of the House of Representatives, as the best Czech participant at the competition. She also won Ema Destinnová’s prize in České Budějovice and M.Schneider-Trnavský in Trnava, she was a semifinalist at Belvedere in Vienna, a finalist at Ranieri I Cestelli in Munich and at Merano in Italy. She won a competition of german conservatories in Augsburg in 1997 and was awarded a rarely offered scholarship to Richard Wagner’s Bayreuther Festspiele. In 1996 she became a member of the Opera Studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich where she worked under the leadership of chamber vocalists Astrid Varnay and David Thaw and conductor Heinrich Bender. This experience allowed her to learn several opera roles and perfect her lyrical and oratory skills. She appeared in a few productions in the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. Karla Bytnarová appeared as a guest in the State Opera Bánská Bystrica (Luisa Miller - Federica), Slovakian National Theatre Bratislava and J.K.Tyl Theatre Plzeň (Werther - Charlotte), in Landestheater Coburg (Così fan tutte - Dorabella, Simplicius Simplicissimus - Simplicius, Gypsy baron - Czipra), in Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich (Carmen - Mercedes), Südostbayerische Städtetheater in Passau (Don Giovanni - Donna Elvira, Ariadna auf Naxos - Composer, Dryada, Les Contes d’Hoffmann - Niklas, Muse) etc. Karla Bytnarová is an excellent performer of vocal and oratory works. In the 2005/2006 season she was the soloist of the National Theatre Opera in Prague and performed here Maddalena (Rigoletto), Amneris (Aida) and the czech repertoire.Update: 2006
