Jussi Nousiainen
Biography
Jussi Nousiainen graduated from the Theatre Academy of Helsinki in 1996 finishing his thesis and becoming MA in dance in 2008. He spent the first year after school working as a professional freelance dancer in Finland.
In 1997, after joining Charleroi Dance in Belgium, he has permanently settled abroad. Two years later, he started working at Noord Nederlandse Dans/Galili Dance in The Netherlands. In 2006 he once again decided to become a freelancer while continuing working with Itzik Galili as a choreographic assistant, setting several of his creations for different companies worldwide. Within his freelance career he has worked with many choreographers, among them those who are known around the Netherlands as well as those who are recognized on international scene. He has also danced for short periods as a guest dancer at the Frankfurt Ballet in 2003 and at the Batsheva Dance Company in 2006. He has been creating his own choreographies occasionally since 1994, the most recent creation being ‘AWOOM-are we one or more?’ made for Dansgroep Amsterdam in 2012. The production toured around the Netherlands as part of the ‘Viewtour II’ program. Besides dancing and choreographing, he also teaches and coaches. In 2012, he has received a certificate to teach the Counter Technique.
The first time he worked with Václav Kuneš was in The Netherlands back in 2009. In 2011, he joined the team of ‘Wind-up’, a production of 420PEOPLE that premiered in the spring of 2012 in Prague.
