Juli Balázs
Biography
Juli Balázs is a set and costume designer based in Budapest, working across Europe. Alongside her theatre projects, she designs immersive art installations and conducts research on immersive theatre and art at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME).
After completing her studies at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (Set- and Costume Design), she has designed productions for several Hungarian and European theatres, including Schauspielhaus Zürich, Burgtheater Wien, Bühnen Bern, and Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg. She has been a regular member of Viktor Bodó's artistic team, collaborating on over fifteen productions to date.
In parallel with her design practice, she teaches scenography at her alma mater, where she introduces students to creative spatial thinking and installation-based approaches to design.
In 2019, she co-designed the installation INFINITE DUNE, which was awarded Best Exhibition of Countries and Regions at Prague Quadrennial (PQ). She continues to create immersive installations in close collaboration with the same artistic team.
Since 2021, she has been a doctoral student at MOME, researching immersive art and theatre, with a particular focus on how traditional theatre performances—where audiences remain observers—can nevertheless evoke immersive experiences.
Since 2020, she has served as Vice President of OISTAT Hungary, an organisation connecting theatre designers, architects, and technicians. The organisation regularly hosts symposia and conferences on topics such as eco-scenography, artificial intelligence, stage safety, and the future of education.
