Biography
Joshua Bates is a graduate of the University of Maryland school of music undergraduate program in vocal performance, studying under Kevin Short. His first experience performing a full opera role to this point was singing Frederic in a fully orchestrated Pirates of Penzance in high school only learning afterward he was in fact, a baritone and not a tenor! Joshua has sung bass solos for various orchestrated Bach cantatas and has sung the baritone solos for a fully orchestrated Faure Requiem and, with the help of his friends on his senior recital, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs with choir and string quintet! He has performed Lumiere and The Beast in the musical version of Beauty and the Beast, Page in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and his musical theatre dream role, Javert, in a fully orchestrated Les Miserables.
