Biography

Polish bass Jerzy Butryn makes his National Theatre Opera debut in 2023/24 season in the title role of Boito’s Mefistofele (State Opera production). He has already created this role in November and in December 2023 at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Jerzy Butryn has guest appeared as Il Commen-datore in Don Giovanni at the Glyndebourne Festival, Colline in La bohème and Le Bailli in Werther at the Polish National Opera, Joe in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at Teatro Regio di Parma, as Adiutant, The Officer, Old Valet of Bolkonsky in War and Peace at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and Talbot in Giovanna d'Arco at the St Gallen Festival. He also returned as Le Bailli in Werther to the Polish National Opera, Four villains in Les contes d’Hoffmann, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Escamillo in Carmen and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Wrocław Opera House. He also sang the bass part in Verdi’s Requiem in Pisa Duomo with Hartmut Haenchen. Jerzy Butryn is awaiting his debuts at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Salzburger Festpiele in the upcoming season.
