Jens Larsen

Biography

German bass Jens Larsen will make his debut at the State Opera in October 2023 as Baron Ochs in Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier.
In the 2023/2024 season he will also appear at the Bavarian State Opera as the Doctor in Wozzeck and at the Komische Oper Berlin in Le nozze di Figaro, Die Fledermaus and Die Zauberflöte. More recently, he has appeared as the Spokesman in Die Zauberflöte, the Doctor and the Clerk in The Nose, the Pistola in Falstaff, the Magician in Weinberger's Schwanda the Bagpiper, all at the Komische Oper Berlin; Dikoy in Katya Kabanova at the Komische Oper Berlin and at the Salzburg Festival, where he also returned as the Old Servant in Elektra, the One-Armed Man in Die Frau ohne Schatten under the direction of V. Jurowski with the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin. As a soloist of the Komische Oper Berlin he took on the roles of Tiresias in Oedipus, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, the King in The Love for Three Oranges, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte. At the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, at the Zurich Opera House and at the Salzburg Festival he performed the role of the Doctor in Wozzeck. At the Elbe Philharmonic Hamburg he made his debut as Alfred Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Larsen's recent engagements include the role of Sir Humphrey Davenaut in Marschner's The Vampyre at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Inquisitor in The Fiery Angel at the Bavarian State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Düsseldorf on the Rhine, and Schigolch in Berg's Lulu at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago. Larsen's repertoire at the Komische Oper Berlin includes the following roles: Trulove in The Rake's Progress, Baron Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier, Tcherevik in The Sorochinsky Fair, Seneca L'Incoronazione di Poppea, Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, Lindorf/Coppélius/Le docteur Miracle/ Dapertutto in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, the title part in Don Pasquale, Forester in The cunning little Vixen, Kaspar in Der Freischütz, Rocco in Fidelio, König Heinrich in Lohengrin, König Marke in Tristan und Isolde, Zuniga in Carmen, Priest in Moses und Aron, and Die Zeit / Antinoos in Monteverdi’s Odysseus, etc.
