Jan Herget

Biography

Jan Herget was born on 9 October 1981 in Prague. In 2005, he graduated from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he studied acting. In 2008, he joined the South Bohemia Theatre in České Budějovice. He subsequently decided to pursue a career as a journalist, and after two years of gaining professional experience with the Hitrádio Faktor station he was engaged at Czech Radio, where he worked from 2008 to 2019, first as a copy editor, later on as an editor and finally as a manager of the domestic news section. In addition to working for the news service, he created his own programmes, primarily large-scale documentaries about artists (including Soňa Červená, Vlasta Chramostová and Eduard Cupák). Furthermore, he penned scripts for smaller drama formats and wrote several minute plays, and he also worked as a presenter on the Klub Rádia Junior programme. While at Czech Radio, for seven years he trained fledgling journalists and was a member of the organising committee of the Prix Bohemia Radio international festival.

Jan Herget has also dedicated to literature. He has written two biographies of actors (Laďka Kozderková – Lady Muzikál and Petr Haničinec – Vztekloun s jemnou duší), as well as a book on Czech Radio buildings (Budovy, které mluví), in parallel with which he shot a 15-part documentary serial (Tady bydlí rozhlas).

Between 2019 and 2021, he worked at the Prima television channel, where he was invited to participate in the start-up of the CNN Prima NEWS project as the Head of Prime Time News.
