Biography

Romanian tenor Ioan Hotea makes his Prague National Theatre Opera debut in 2022/23 season in Verdi’s Rigoletto. He shot to prominence in 2015 when he became a winner of the Operalia competition, where he was awarded the First Prize in both Opera and Zarzuela categories. Since then he has performed on the stages of Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, Zurich Opera, Opéra national de Paris, Frankfurt Opera, German Opera Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Bavarian State Opera and Chorégies d’Orange in the roles of Ernesto (Don Pasquale), Tebaldo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Elvino (La sonnambula), Prince Léopold (La Juive), Il Duca di Mantua (Rigoletto), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Des Grieux (Manon), Ernesto (Don Pasquale) and Alfredo (La traviata), among others. Ioan Hotea graduated from the Bucharest Music Academy. He made his professional debut at the age of 21 as Nemorino and was immediately engaged as a soloist of the Romanian National Opera of Bucharest. Since 2015, he has been a soloist of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.
