Biography
Guest of the National Theatre Opera. Born in Cordoba/Argentina, Gustavo Porta has started his studies at the Conservatory of his native city and continued at the Accademy of Arts of the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, and took part in different master classes with Regine Crespin and Guillermo Opitz. His debut on opera stage happened in 1996, in the role of Monostatos (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, subsequently he did his first Nemorino (Donizetti: L’elisir d’amore). In 1999 he moved to Italy, and there he made his debut in Padua as Don José in Bizet’s Carmen; in 2001 he did Pinkerton (Puccini: Madame Butterfly) in different theatres in France, did the solo part in Puccini’s Missa di Gloria in Gorizia and in Verona, did his debut in the role of Arrigo (Verdi: I vespri siciliani) in Darmstadt/Germany. In 2002 he is busy with Mario Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca at the Teatro Bellini in Catania, with his debut in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut at the Opera in Goteborg/Sweden, with Bellini’s Norma a the Royal Opera House in Stockholm; in 2003 he is doing Don José in Carmen with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra Tel Aviv conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos as well as at the National Theatre in Warszaw, Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth at the Verdi Summer Festival of the ‘Fondazione Arturo Toscanini’ in Busseto, a new production of Tosca at the Opera in Goteborg, Aida with the ‘Arturo Toscanini Foundation’ in Rome and in Florence, his debut in the title role of Gounod’s Faust at the Pretoria Opera House, that one in the role of Turiddu (Mascagni: Cavalleria rusticana) at the Macerata Opera Festival, that one in the title part of Verdi’s Aroldo in Piacenza in a production of the ‘Fondazione Arturo Toscanini’, staged by Pier Luigi Pizzi. In 2004 he is doing a production of Norma at the Staatstheater Darmstadt, his debut at the Liceu in Barcelona in Puccini’s Le Villi (concert performances), in 2005 Carmen at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari conducted by Yves Abel, Madame Butterfly at the Teatro Bellini in Catania etc. In 2006 he made his debut with the Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo as Pinkerton, that one as Enzo Grimaldi in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda at the Teatro Bellini Catania, that one at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Manon Lescaut; he also debuted in the role of Dick Johnson in Puccini’s La fanciulla del West at the National Theatre in Prague, he made his role debut as Andrea Chenier again at the Teatro Bellini Catania, Riccardo in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera at the Opera in Graz/Austria.
