Biography

Georgian bass Giorgi Chelidze makes his National Theatre Opera debut in May 2024 as Lorenzo (Roméo et Juliette). Born in Tbilisi, Giorgi Chelidze graduated from the State Conservatory in his hometown. He won 1st prize at the International Giovanni Martinelli – Aureliano Pertile Singing Competition (Montagnana, Italy) and 2nd prize at the International Competition in the Italian town of Crispiano. He made his debut as Dulcamara (L'elisir d'amore) at the State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Tbilisi, where he has also performed as Timur (Turandot), Angelotti (Tosca) and Zuniga (Carmen), among others. He has guest-starred as Colline (La bohème) at the Amman Opera Festival (Jordan), Sparafucile (Rigoletto) in Chengdu (China), Skuratov (The Tsar's Bride) at Teatro Regio in Turin, etc.
