
Gerhild Romberger
Biography
Gerhild Romberger completed her vocal training at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold under Professor Heiner Eckels, earning her concert exam diploma. She furthered her studies with masterclasses in song interpretation with Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll. Since 2003, Gerhild Romberger has been a professor of voice at the Hochschule für Musik Detmold. The singer focuses primarily on concert performances, with a wide-ranging repertoire that includes all major alto and mezzo-soprano parts in oratorio and concert literature, spanning from the Baroque period to 20th-century works. Key milestones in recent years have included collaborations with the Vienna and Berlin Philharmonics under Andris Nelsons and Gustavo Dudamel, performances with the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra under Herbert Blomstedt, as well as concerts with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia – Roma and conductor Manfred Honeck. In the 2024/25 season, Gustav Mahler’s symphonies once again take center stage. Gerhild Romberger opened the season with Mahler’s Symphony No. 3, performing first in Paris with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, followed by a performance in Monaco with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo. Gerhild Romberger has also accepted an invitation from the U.S. to perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 9, which took her to Leipzig and Wroclaw to perform with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig under Andris Nelsons. To conclude the season, she will appear as Erda in a concert production of Richard Wagner’s Siegfried, performing with the Dresden Festival Orchestra and Concerto Köln under Kent Nagano at prestigious concert halls across Europe. Gerhild Romberger‘s recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under Bernard Haitink was awarded the 2018 BBC Music Magazine Award for Recording of the Year.
