Gabriela Haukvicová


Gabriela Haukvicová studied singing at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava (1993-99). While still a student, she became a member of the chorus of the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre Opera. She introduced herself as a soloist in the role of Bastienne in Mozart’s opera Bastien und Bastienne. Alongside singing, she began private studies of opera direction with the director Jiří Glogar and later on with the director Inge Švandová. In 2000 she started to work as an assistant stage director at the Silesian Theatre in Opava (productions: The Devil and Kate, Two Widows, Don Pasquale, The Bandits). In 2002 she began studying opera direction at the Music School of the Academy of Performing Arts (HAMU) and at the present time is attending the class of Professor Miloslav Nekvasil. Within HAMU, she has directed A Christmas Performance – And The Light Will Come, the baroque pasticchio Alessander in India, Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne and Igor Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale). Since 2004 she has worked as an assistant stage director in the National Theatre Opera, where she has cooperated on the productions Vanda, Adriana Lecouvreur, The Four Note Opera, Medium and Jenufa.
