Frank Philipp Schlößmann

Biography

Frank Philipp Schlößmann, set and costume designer, studied at the Mozarteum Academy of Art in Salzburg. Since then, he worked as freelance designer for directors, such as Olivier Tambosi, Götz Friedrich, Harry Kupfer, Peter Konwitschny, Vincent Boussard and Stephen Lawless.

Notable engagements: worked and works for such companies as the three Opera houses in Berlin (Staatsoper, Komische Oper, Deutsche Oper), Hamburg State Opera; Bavarian State Opera, Munich; Dresden State Opera (Semperoper); State Opera Hanover, State Opera Deutsche Oper am Rhein Dusseldorf and Duisburg, Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden and Darmstadt, National Theatres Mannheim and Weimar, Aalto Theatre Essen, Opera houses Cologne, Bonn, Dortmund, Karlsruhe, Augsburg and for Festivals like Haendel Festival Halle and Telemann Festival Magdeburg.

International engagements at houses like the Metropolitan Opera New York, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera and San Diego Opera; as well as numerous important houses all around the world, like the Italian opera companies Teatro La Fenice Venice, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Florence, Teatro Bellini Catania, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa. Also the British Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the English National Opera in London, the Irish Dublin Opera, the Swiss Opera houses in Zurich, Basel, Luzern and Bern, the Austrian Opera houses in Linz, Graz, Klagenfurt and Vienna Volksoper, the French Opéra du Rhin, Strasbourg, Finish National Opera Helsinki, Norwegian Opera and Ballet Oslo, Operas Antwerpen and Gent, Belgium; Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Spain; Budapest State Opera, Hungary; National Opera Amsterdam, Netherlands; New National Theatre Tokyo, Japan; National Centre for the Performing Arts Beijing, China; Mariinsky Theatre St. Petersburg, Russia; Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Argentina – among many others.

Also set design engagements at Festivals of international significance like the Austrian Bregenz Festival, Seefestspiele Mörbisch, Innsbrucker Festwochen der alten Musik, Festival of White Nights St. Petersburg, St. Galler Festspiele, Seiji Ozawa Festival as well as Wagner Festival Bayreuth, here the Ring cycle 2006 – 2010, Tristan and Isolde 2015 – 2019.
