Biography

Eva Butzkies was born in 1977 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany. After studying costume design in Hannover, Germany, and an internship semester at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in England, she worked as an assistant at the Theater Basel, Switzerland, from 2003-2005. Since 2004, she has designed costume designs for numerous operas, plays and dance theatre productions, at regional and national theatres (Stadttheater) as well as for performances of the independent scene. Her costume design for the open-air spectacle Don Quixote – The Making of Dreams in Biel 2008 was part of a study by the Zurich University of the Arts, the production Fucking Amal (junges theater basel/Theater Basel) won the Impulse Prize 2005 and Dido und Aeneas (Theater Basel 2006) was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen 2007 (a selection of the 10 most remarkable productions of the season). The short film Beckenrand (directed by Michael Koch) was nominated for the Swiss Film Prize in 2005. Eva Butzkies lives in Basel, Switzerland, holds a diploma in costume design and a MA Design (Textiles).
