
Ermanno Sbezzo

Ermanno Sbezzo began his career in Germany. After several years as a soloist dancer with leading German companies, he joined the world-renowned company Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, an international benchmark for contemporary dance. With Ballets Jazz, he performed worldwide in prestigious venues such as the New York City Center, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Maison de la Danse in Lyon, the Sony Centre in Toronto, the Teatro Municipal of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the Teatro del Canal in Madrid, among many others. During this period, he interpreted works by prominent choreographers including Andonis Foniadakis, Ihsan Rustem, Itzik Galili, Juliano Nunes, Cayetano Soto, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Crystal Pite, and Marco Goecke. Alongside his performing career, Sbezzo has developed a distinctive and personal choreographic language. As a choreographer, he has created works for institutions such as Pfalztheater Tanz, Ballett Pforzheim, Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Among his most recent and significant creations are Proximity or Closeness, created for Eleonora Abbagnato and Sergio Bernal and presented at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Teatro Costanzi) and the London Coliseum; and (in)Edith, a new creation for Orsolina28. He has also choreographed numerous works for principal dancers and étoiles of the international scene, further establishing his role as a leading contemporary choreographer. In the summer of 2025, Ermanno Sbezzo served as choreographer for La Traviata, directed by Sláva Daubnerová, presented at the Terme di Caracalla in Rome.
