Biography

Since her critically acclaimed debut in 2004  in the role of Turandot at the Malmö Opera, Swedish-American soprano Erika Sunnegårdh has been establishing herself as one of the most versatile sopranos on the world stage. In April 2006 she debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in York York as Leonore (Fidelio), and returned here as Gerhilde (Die Walküre), First Lady (Die Zauberflöte) and in 2007 as Turandot. A the Vienna State Opera she debuted as Lady Macbeth (7. 12. 2009) and in September 2016 she created there Salome. Feeling particularly at home with the music of Strauss, Beethoven, Puccini and Wagner, Ms. Sunnegårdh has performed the roles of Kaiserin (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Salome, Chrysotemis (Elektra), Leonore (Fidelio), Tosca, Turandot and Senta (Der fliegende Holländer) at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, the Grand Teâtre de Genève, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Teatro Communale di Bologna, Semperoper Dresden, Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, Welsh National Opera, Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, the New International Theatre in Tokyo, the Oper Frankfurt, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, Oper Köln, Nashville Opera, the Bregenzer Festspiele, the Oslo Opera, among many others.
