Elzbieta Szmytka


Guest of the National Theatre Opera. The Polish soprano Elzbieta Szmytka studied with Helena Lazarska and made her debut as Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro at the opera of Krakow. Since then she has sung regularly in many important theatres, such as the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Théâtre Champs Elysées, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, as well as at the festivals of Salzburg, Aix-en-Provence and Glyndebourne. Her repertoire includes several Mozart parts, such as Cinna (Lucio Silla), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Ilia and Ellectra (Idomeneo). Her repertolire also shows parts as Verdi’s Gilda (Rigoletto) and Violetta (La traviata), Sophie (R. Strauss: Der Rosenkavalier), Rosalinde (J. Strauss: Die Fledermaus), Mélisande (Debussy: Pelléas et Mélisande), Antonia (Offenbach: Les contes d'Hoffmann), Mimi (Puccini: La bohème), Roxana (Szymanowski: King Roger), Poppea (Monteverdi: L’incoronazione di Poppea). Elzbieta Szmytka has worked with Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez, Sylvain Cambreling, John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Neville Marriner, Antonio Pappano, John Pritchard, Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Georg Solti. She took part in recording the complete Mozarts arias with Philips, as well as Così fan tutte with Sir Neville Marriner, La finta giardiniera (Serpetta), Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Blondchen) and Don Giovanni by Giuseppe Gazzaniga with Bruno Weill, Il matrimonio segreto by Cimarosa, Lehár’s Die lustige Witwe, Szymanovski's King Roger and Stabat Mater with Sir Simon Rattle and the complete recording of the Chopin songs.
