Biography
Mexican tenor Eleazar Rodríguez is making his debut at the National Theatre’s 2020/21 season, as Young sailor and Shepherd (Tristan und Isolde). Born in the city of Piedras Negras, he received a scholarship from Mexico’s most respected support programme for young artists, the Sociedad Internacional de Valores de Arte Mexicano. After subsequent conservatory studies in San Francisco, he obtained yet another grant, this time under San Francisco’s prestigious Merola Opera Program targeting young artists. In 2010/11 he was a member of the opera ensemble at the Theatre Heidelberg, and since the 2011/12 season he has been part of the opera company of the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. He has guest appeared at the Oper Frankfurt, as Rodrigo (Otello), at the Michigan Opera Theater in Detroit, the English National Opera in London and the Oper Graz, as Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Opera North in Leeds, as Rodolfo (La bohème), the English National Opera in London, as Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), the Lucerne Theatre, as Fenton (Falstaff), the Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, as Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) and Fenton, and in other venues.
