Dorota Karolczak

Dorota Karolczak, born 1988 in Bydgoszcz Poland, designs stages and costumes primarily but not exclusively for opera and music theatre. Her award nominations include the Jan Kiepura Music Awards, Poland 2019 for her sets and costumes for the world premiere of the Dariusz Przybylski’s Anhelli at Poznan Opera, and the Irish TImes Theatre Awards 2020 for her costumes in Northern Ireland Opera’s production of Sweeney Todd. Recent productions include Anhelli (sets and costumes, Poznan 2019), Peter Eötvös’ The Golden Dragon (sets, Mainfranken Theater Würzburg 2019), Faust (costumes, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe 2019), Rodrigo (sets and costumes, Göttingen International Handel Festival 2019), Sweeney Todd (sets and costumes, Northern Ireland Opera 2019), The Threepenny Opera (sets and costumes, Northern Ireland Opera and Royal Academy of Music London, 2018) and a European Tour of the Rock Musical RENT (sets and costumes, 2017). She has also designed for film, events and exhibitions. Dorota Karolczak initially studied architecture (Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus, 2012) before switching to scenic design (Technische Universität Berlin, 2016).
