

Baritone Dominik Klapka makes his debut at the National Theatre Opera as the Hunter in Dvořák’s Rusalka on September 19, 2026, at the State Opera.
He began his vocal studies at the Pilsen Conservatory in the class of Yevhen Shokalo, M.A., graduating in 2023. Since 2022, he has been studying at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in the class of Prof. Ivan Kusnjer. On the opera stage, his roles include Papageno in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Krušina in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride, the Gamekeeper in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Tomeš in Smetana’s The Kiss, Antonio in Lehár’s Giuditta, Vicomte Cascada in The Merry Widow, the King in Martinů’s Špalíček, the Merchant in Portman’s The Little Prince, as well as the Second Inquisitor and King Stanislaus in Bernstein’s Candide. In the production of Martinů’s Julietta, he portrayed the Man in a Helmet, the Memory Vendor, and the Beggar. He has also performed in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Sivigia as Fiorillo and the Notary. He is a laureate of numerous national and international singing competitions. He repeatedly won first place at the Prague Singer International Competition (2019, 2022), earned third prizes at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary (2022, 2023), second prize at the Bohuslav Martinů Competition in Prague (2018), and third prize at the Dušek Youth Music Competition (2019). He holds several special honors, including the J. K. Tyl Theatre Award, the Beno Blachut Award, the Eva Randová Award, the Vilém Zítek Award, the Ivan Choupenitch Award, and the Jiřina Marková Award. In 2023, he received the Pilsen Orpheus Award for the year 2022. Alongside opera, he is actively engaged in concert performance.
