Dmitry Ivanchey

Biography

The lyric tenor Dmitry Ivanchey makes his debut in the National Theatre Opera as Conte Almaviva in Rossini’ Il barbiere di Siviglia in September 2026.

Dmitry Ivanchey comes from a fifth-generation family of musicians. He studied violin at the Gnessin Academy and voice at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. At the same time, he was engaged as a violinist with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra for four years. A formative stage in his career was his time as a member of the ensemble at the Zurich Opera House, where he appeared in roles such as Count Almaviva, The Helmsman, Pang, The Young Count in Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten, and in Eötvös’ Three Sisters. During this period, he also carefully prepared the roles of Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), and Ferrando (Così fan tutte) for his repertoire. At the Aalto-Theater Essen, he further refined his Mozart and bel canto repertoire, appearing as Almaviva, Nemorino, Tamino, Tito, Belmonte, Don Ottavio, Ferrando, Adam, and Belfiore. Since 2022, Dmitry Ivanchey has been a permanent ensemble member of the Oper Köln, where he has appeared as Idomeneo, Belmonte, Tamino, Don Ramiro, Ferrando, Nemorino, Iopas, Camille de Rossillon, and Don Ottavio, among others. As a guest artist, Dmitry Ivanchey has appeared as Don Ottavio at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and at Oper Graz; as the Italian Singer (Capriccio) at La Monnaie in Brussels and the Opéra de Lyon; as Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse; as Bomelius (The Tsar’s Bride) at the Bolshoi Theatre; and as The Helmsman (Der fliegende Holländer) at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence, the Zurich Opera House, and in concert performance at Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música. His festival appearances include the Festival Radio France, Rossini Opera Festival, Klangvokal Musikfestival Dortmund, Osterfestspiele Baden-Baden, Festival de Pâques Aix-en-Provence, and the Saaremaa Opera Festival. Among his awards are the Second Prize at the Minsk International Christmas Singing Competition, First Prize at the Moscow Competition for Lyric Tenors, and prizes at the International Città di Pesaro Competition, where he received Second Prize in Violin and Third Prize in Singing. He has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Nello Santi, Alberto Zedda, Fabio Luisi, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Kirill Petrenko, Krzysztof Penderecki, François-Xavier Roth, Marco Armiliato, Marc Albrecht, Enrique Mazzola, Alain Altinoglu, Axel Kober, Andriy Yurkevych, Daniel Smith, Tomáš Netopil, and Christopher Moulds. His work with stage directors includes collaborations with Robert Wilson, Calixto Bieito, Andreas Homoki, Barrie Kosky, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Tatjana Gürbaca, Herbert Fritsch, Johannes Erath, Mariame Clément, and Cecilia Ligorio. Current and upcoming engagements in the 2025/26 season include the title role of Idomeneo at Oper Graz and the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, Haydn’s The Creation (Tenor) at the Prague Spring Festival, and, in Cologne, Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), and Argirio (Tancredi).
