Biography

The costume designer Dana Haklová will be working for the very first time with the National Theatre Opera in the 2023/24 season (on a new production of Nabucco). She studied stone masonry at the School of Stonework and Sculpture in Hořice and set design at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. After graduating in 1984, she was engaged at the State Theatre in Ústí nad Labem. Since 1999, she has been a freelance designer. She has created costumes for numerous theatres in the Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Poland and Bulgaria (until 2012, under the surname Svobodová). Dana Haklová has regularly collaborated with the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, where she has designed costumes for productions of ballets, operas and operettas (Der Vogelhändler, Gräfin Mariza) and musicals (Nunsense, Fiddler on the Roof, The Gypsy Camp Goes to Heaven, Juno and Avos, Bonnie & Clyde, etc.). She also worked on the 1992 Prague production of the popular musical Les Misérables.
