Cornelia Beskow

Biography

Swedish soprano Cornelia Beskow will make her debut at the National Theatre in 2024 in the title role of Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos.

Her recent performances include her debut as Elsa in Wagner's Lohengrin at the Vienna State Opera, the title role of Jenůfa in the new production directed by Keith Warner at Den Norske Opera & Ballett and Teatro dell Opera in Rome, Chrysothemis in Strauss's Elektra, Sieglinde in Wagner's Die Walküre and Tatiana in Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, Ellen Orford in Britten's Peter Grimes at the Polish National Opera in Warsaw and the title role of Tchaikovsky's Iolanta directed by Lotte de Beer at the Volksoper Wien. Her repertoire also includes Donna Elvira (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Wellgunde (Wagner: Das Rheingold), Senta (Wagner: Der fliegende Holländer), Katherina (Shostakovich: Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk) and other roles.

Her concert repertoire ranges from Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder and Mahler's Rückert Lieder to songs by Jean Sibelius, Ture Rangström and Gösta Nyström. As a soloist she has appeared with the Royal Danish Orchestra in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and with Sir Bryn Terfel in a programme called Wagner, Dvořák and Gershwin with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra.

Cornelia Beskow is the recipient of the Birgit Nilsson 2022 Scholarship and was awarded a Royal Swedish Opera Scholarship and a Swedish Wagner Society Scholarship for her debut as Sieglinde.
