
Biography
The Swiss mezzo-soprano Claude Eichenberger is a permanent member of the solo ensemble at Bühnen Bern, where she has sung the title role in Carmen (available on DVD; Arthaus Musik), Ortrud (Lohengrin), Venus (Tannhäuser), Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde), Fricka (Die Walküre), Madame Flora (The Medium), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier), the Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos), Herodias (Salome), Judith (Bluebeard's Castle) and Kostelnička (Jenůfa). In contem-porary operas, she has sung Jitsuko (Toshio Hosokawa: Hanjo), Das süße Mädchen (Philippe Boesmans: Reigen), Magda (Xavier Dayer: Alzheim), Mrs. McNeill (Missy Mazzoli: Breaking the Waves) and the female lead in the world premiere of the opera Liebesgesang by Georg Friedrich Haas (on 31 May 2024). She has also guest appeared as the Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Montepulciano, the Page (Salome) at the Alte Oper Frankfurt (available as a live CD; Pentatone) and Brangäne (Tristan und Isolde) at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen. In 2023, she made her debut at the Hamburg State Opera as Venus (Tannhäuser) under the baton of Kent Nagano.
