Chun-Chiang Chiu


Comes from Taiwan. He started his artistic career in 1989 as a repétiteur of opera performances in Taipei. After his arrival in Germany he studied at the University of Art in Berlin and regularly conducted concerts of the Berlin Symphonists and the University Chamber Orchestra. He lead many opera productions of the University of Art, theatres in Berlin and Baden-Baden. In 1995 he was introduced to arrange the premiere of Chinese musical Cyrano de Bergerac in Taipei. From 1998 he also conducted and artistically supervised production The Magic Flute in the Taipei National Theatre. In 2000 he accepted the position of assistant conductor to František Preisler in the Prague National Theatre to study Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. Since then he has participated as an assistant conductor on many other productions (for example Tristan und Isolde, Tosca, Wozzeck, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Le nozze di Figaro, The Fate, Macbeth, Don Giovanni), where he cooperated with conductors Jiří Kout, Oliver Dohnányi, Elgar Howarth, Peter Feranec, Jiří Bělohlávek, Bohumil Kulinský, Jan Chalupecký and Karl Sollak. In May 2002 he debuted behind the conductorial stand of the National Theatre orchestra in production of Don Giovanni in the Theatre of the Estates in Prague. In October 2002 he lead in the Theatre of the Estates the world premiere of the POUNDING ON THE IRON CURTAIN (Árie k nezaplacení) project by hans w. koch, Zdeněk Plachý and Jiří Šimáček.
