Christoph Späth

Biography

The tenor Christoph Späth will be making his debut at the State Opera in Prague in November 2022 as Valzacchi in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier.
Born in Berlin, he graduated from Yale University as a Master of Music. A member of the Komische Oper Berlin since 2002, he has portrayed numerous tenor roles, including Pedrillo in Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail, the Prince in Prokofiev's L'amour des trois oranges, Zinoviy in Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Jimmy Mahony in Weill's Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny and Herod in Strauss's Salome. He has appeared at the Salzburger Festspiele, the Munich Biennale and other festivals, and has performed under conductors of such renown as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Kirill Petrenko and Vladimir Jurowski. He has sung in productions by Calixto Bieto, Andreas Homoki, Hans Neuenfels, Sebastian Baumgarten, Barrie Kosky and other leading directors. In 2012, Christoph Späth was awarded the honorary title of Berliner Kammersänger.
