Charles Balfour

Biography

Charles Balfour is an internationally renowned British lighting designer, possessing extensive experience with theatre, dance and music. Since the 1980s, he has designed lighting for hundreds of shows. Recent credits include productions at Shakespeare’s Globe (Romeo and Juliet), in the West End (Who‘s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Mojo, Richard III, etc.), at the National Theatre in London (Ma Rainey‘s Black Bottom), etc.

He has worked with theatre companies across the UK, Europe and further afield (Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court, Rambert Dance, Broadway, Hamburg and many others). Balfour has received the UK Theatre Award for Best Design (2013), the West End Award for Best Lighting Design (2014), and other accolades.
