Biography

Carlos Cardoso makes his National Theatre Opera debut in the 2023/24 season in the role of Don José (Carmen). Born in Tarouquela, Portugal, he studied singing with Paulo Ferreira at the Beira Interior School. He was a member of the Opera studio of Lisbon's Teatro Sao Carlos and, from 2011–2013, of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in Milan, where he performed, among others, as Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola. Since the 2017/18 season he has been member of the ensemble at the Aalto Theater Essen, where he has sung Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Ismaele (Nabucco), Alfredo (La traviata), Rodolfo (Luisa Miller), Don José (Carmen), Rodolfo (La bohème), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Narraboth (Salome), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) and Pollione (Norma). He has performed at the Rossini Opera Festival in Bad Wildbad, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, Teatro Verdi di Busseto, La Monnaie, Brussels, Landestheater Salzburg, Teatro Sao Carlo in Lisbon, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Lithuanian National Opera, Vilnius and Teatro Verdi di Trieste, among others.
