Bruno Berger-Gorski


Bruno Berger-Gorski studied theatre science, musicology and history of art in Vienna. Since 1993 he has worked as a stage director worldwide. In addition to numerous productions in Germany (Staatsoper Hamburg – Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Theater Aachen – Donizetti’s Maria di Rohan, Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater in Schwerin – Rossini’s Il Turco in Italia, Theater der Landeshauptstadt in Magdeburg – Puccini’s Tosca, Das Meininger Theater – Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, Leoncavallo’s Pagliaci, Ermann Wolf-Ferarri’s Sly) and Austria (Festspielhaus Salzburg – Puccini’s La bohème), he has also directed, for example, in Spain (Grand Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona – Verdi’s La forza del destino, Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo – Wagner’s Tannhäuser), Argentina (Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires – Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier), Uruguay (Teatro Solis in Montevideo – Donizetti’s L’elisir d‘amore), Brazil (Teatro Municipal Sao Paolo – Bellini’s Norma), Israel (Ashkelon – Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila), Greece (National Theatre in Thessaloniki – La bohème), the Czech Republic (National Theatre in Brno – Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, State Opera Prague – Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia), the USA (Florida Grand Opera in Miami – Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte). Since 1993 Bruno Berger-Gorski has worked as a guest at Vest-Norges-Opera in Bergen, Norway, where he has created an extensive repertoire for the opera ensemble. He has directed there, for example, Verdi’s Aida and Nabucco, Massenet’s Manon and Werther, Bizet’s Carmen and Puccini’s Turandot. In 2006 he directed in Bergen the Scandinavian premiere of Carlisle Floyd’s opera Susannah in the non-traditional space of hangar, where he later also directed Samson et Dalila. In Trier he directed the German premiere of Offenbach’s opera Die Rhein Nixen (Fairies of the Rhine), which the Opernwelt 2005 yearbook branded “rediscovery of the year”. Bruno Berger-Gorski teaches at the Faculty of Theatre Science at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Musikhochschule in Detmold, and is a Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.Update: October 2007
