Biography

Bella Adamova makes her debut at the National Theatre Opera in the 2023/24 season as the Third Wood Sprite in a new production of Rusalka. A native of Chechnya, she grew up in Prague, studied successively in Cologne, London, and at the Basel Academy of Music where she concentrated on improvisation. Taking part in a number of contests, she won the Robert Schumann IMC in Zwickau (in a duo with German pianist Malte Schäfer); in July 2022 she received second prize from the Franz Schubert and Modern Music chamber music competition in Graz and won in the oratorio category of the competition in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.

The focal point of her artistic interest is the song. Her repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary compositions (including pieces written especially for her) and includes German songs and Russian romances. With song recitals she has performed at the Prague Spring Festival 2023, Heidelberger Frühling and at the St. Wenceslas Music Festival, among others. She sings and improvises in a duo with German pianist Michael Gees with whom she has released two albums, Blooming (2019) and There is home (2023) with songs by Pavel Haas, G. Mahler, M. P. Mussorgsky, B. Britten and with her own improvisations.
