Biography

Born in Messina, Italian conductor Antonino Fogliani is recognized as a leading conductor and has established himself on the international scene as one of the most appreciated musicians of his generation. Since making his debut at the Rossini Opera Festival in 2001 with Il viaggio a Reims, he has conducted prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestra Nazionale dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, and the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln. His repertoire spans both well-known and rare works, garnering critical acclaim and audience praise.

His discography includes works such as Ugo, Conte di Parigi by Donizetti (Dynamic), Il marito disperato by Cimarosa (Bongiovanni), Stabat Mater, Ciro in Babilonia, Mosè in Egitto, Semiramide, Guillaume Tell, and Otello by Rossini, La sposa di Messina by Vaccaj (Naxos), Lucia di Lammermoor (Dynamic DVD), and Maria Stuarda (DVD Arthaus Musik).

Since 2012, Fogliani has been the Music Director of the Festival Rossini in Wildbad, and since 2017, the Principal Guest Conductor at Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Since 2021, he has been a Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the "A. Scarlatti" Conservatory in Palermo. He was honored with the title of Ufficiale dell’Ordine "al merito della Repubblica italiana" by President Sergio Mattarella in 2018.

During 2025/26 season he conducts – among the others- I Capuleti e I Montecchi in Amsterdam, Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci, La Fille du Regiment and La Cenerentola at Bayerische Staatsoper, La Cenerentola also in Turin, Madama Butterfly in Geneve.
