Biography

Anna-Sofia Kirsch studied scenography in Germany before working as a set design assistant for designers such as Anna Viebrock and Herbert Murauer. Since 2020, she has been working as a freelance scenographer, collaborating with directors such as Calixto Bieito, Krystian Lada, Yona Kim and R.B. Schlather.
With director Victoria Stevens, she was awarded second prize in the European Opera Directing Prize (Opera Europa / Camerata Nuova), which led to her designing the sets for The Fall of the House of Usher at the Hannover Staatsoper.
Anna-Sofia has worked closely with Calixto Bieito on numerous productions, including Exterminating Angel at the Opera Bastille in Paris, Eliogabalo at the Opera Zurich, Vespro della Beata Vergine and Jakob Lenz at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, and Suor Angelica / Il Prigioniero at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome.
In 2024 Anna-Sofia was nominated for the International Opera Award as "Designer of the Year".
