Biography

Swedish bass Anders Lorentzson has appeared in recent seasons as Wotan in Das Rheingold, Oroveso in Norma, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Monterone in Rigoletto, Daedalus in Jonathan Dove’s The Monster in the Maze and Sir Morosus in Richard Strauss’s Die schweigsame Frau, all at the Göteborg Opera. Anders has also appeared as a guest at the National Theatre Brno in the Czech Republic, where he sang Bluebeard in Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, and at the Norwegian National Opera, where his roles included Oroveso in Norma and Arkel in Pelléas et Mélisande.

Other roles at the Göteborg Opera include Bluebeard, Kolenatý in The Makropulos Case, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Mephistopheles in Faust, Colline in La bohème, Scarpia in Tosca, Il Re in Aida, Banco in Macbeth, Filippo in Don Carlo, Wotan in Die Walküre, Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Zuniga in Carmen, as well as the title roles in Der fliegende Holländer and Falstaff.

Anders has been invited several times to the Royal Swedish Opera, where he has performed roles including Arkel, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Titurel in Parsifal, Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni. He has also appeared as a guest at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he has covered the roles of Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte and Pogner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

His guest engagements have also included Malmö Opera, the Drottningholm Court Theatre, the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the National Theatre in Prague, as well as opera houses in Ljubljana, Ravenna and Taipei.

On the concert platform, Anders Lorentzson has performed works including Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s The Creation and Verdi’s Requiem.
