Biography

Slovak tenor Amir Khan is making his debut at the National Theatre’s 2020/21 season, as Gaston (La traviata), Borsa (Rigoletto) and Spoletta (Tosca, all the State Opera production). Born in 1991 in Čadca, Khan graduated from the Conservatoire in Bratislava under the supervision of Dagmar Livorová (2010–2016). At the same time, he also studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University, where he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine. However, he has been devoting all his time to his career of a singer. Since November 2016, he has been a guest soloist at the Slovak National Theatre, where he debuted as Jeník in the shortened version of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. Since January 2019, he has been soloist of the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, where he debuted as Arbace (Idomeneo). On this stage, he has created the double role of the Haberdasher and the Rag Merchant (Iris), Jeník (Dvořák: The Cunning Peasant), Remenando (Carmen), Jeník (The Bartered Bride), Janek (The Makropulos Affair), Alfred (Die Fledermaus) etc. At the Silesian Theatre Opava he guest appeared as Alfredo (La traviata) and at the South Bohemian Theatre in České Budějovice as Smetana’s Jeník and as Ismail (Nabucco).
