Biography

Russian baritone Alexander Krasnov makes his National Theatre Opera debut in 2020/21 season as Scarpia (Tosca). He graduated from the Urals State Conservatoire of M.P. Mussorgsky in Yekaterinburg (2008). He was a guest performer at the Mikhailovsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg (2009), and a soloist at Glinka State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chelyabinsk (2009–11) and the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (2011–12). Since 2012, he has been a soloist of the Ural Opera Ballet in Yekaterinburg. His repertoire features over twenty roles including Holländer (Der fliegende Holländer) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Estonian National Opera in Tallinn, Scarpia (Tosca) at theDeutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Chile, at the Gärtnerplatztheater Munich and Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava, Iago (Otello) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Rigoletto at the Palm Beach Opera and Slovak National Opera, Telramund (Lohengrin) at the Mariinsky Theatre and Salzburger Landestheater, Mizgir (Snow Maiden) at the Mariinsky Theatre, Gryaznoy (Tsar’s Bride) at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Jochanaan (Salome) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, and Priest Grigoris (Martinů: The Greek Passion) in Yekaterinburg. In 2015, he participated, together with the Prague State Opera Orchestra, in the role of Scarpia in performances of Tosca at the Opernfestspiele St. Margarethen under the baton of Michael Güttler.
