Alejandro Del Angel

Biography

Mexican tenor Alejandro Del Angel maked his National Theatre Opera debut in June 2023, as Turiddu (Cavalleria rusticana, the State Opera new production).

Alejandro Del Angel’s recent and upcoming engagements include Rodolfo in La Bohème, Alfredo Germont in La Traviata, the title role in Werther, and Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana at the Prague State Opera; Hoffmann in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb; as well as Der Freischütz, Rodolfo in La Bohème, Turiddu in Cavalleria rusticana, Cassio in Otello, the Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto, the Erster Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte, Ismaele in Nabucco, an Italian Singer in Der Rosenkavalier, Macduff in Macbeth, Gennaro in Lucrezia Borgia, and Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi at Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, where he is a principal member of the ensemble.
His recent concert repertoire includes Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Kölner Philharmonie and Liszt’s A Faust Symphony at the Granada Festival of Music and Dance. He has additionally appeared as Gastone in La Traviata at the Salzburg Festival and Opéra de Monte-Carlo, as well as the Erster Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte, Elpenor in Die Odyssee, and the Second Jew in Salome at Opernhaus Zürich, where he was a member of the International Opera Studio.
Past engagements include Alfredo in La Traviata, Macduff in Macbeth, B. F. Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the title role in Werther, Rodolfo in La Bohème, and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor at Mexico’s EOBA; Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with SIVAM; and performances of Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Ariel Ramírez’s Misa Criolla and Navidad Nuestra, and Mozart’s Requiem at major concert venues throughout Mexico.
Alejandro has worked with conductors such as Nicola Luisotti, Donato Renzetti, Marco Armiliato, Simone Young, Srba Dinić, Paolo Carignani, Marcus Poschner, and Adrian Kelly. He is the recipient of several awards, including Third Prize at the Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition (Poland, 2022); First Prize at the National Opera Singing Competition Fanny Anitua in Durango, Mexico; the Audience Prize at the XV Nuevas Voces Ciudad de Sevilla Competition in Spain; First Prize at the XI International Singing Competition Sinaloa; and District Winner at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2021).
Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Alejandro Del Angel studied at the National Conservatory of Music and the National School of Music of Mexico. He was a member of the opera studio Taller de Perfeccionamiento Operístico and the Opera Studio Bellas Artes of the National Opera in Mexico.
