Aco Bišćević

Guest of the Opera

Biography

Tenor Aco Bišćević makes his debut at the National Theatre in the role of the Sorceress in Purcell’s opera Dido and Aeneas (2026).

He studied voice and harpsichord at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and with Monika Lenz. He made his debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milano and since then appeared on opera and concert stages throughout Europe and Asia, including the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Theater an der Wien, Komische Oper Berlin, the Trame Sonore Festival in Mantua, the Bach Festival in Lausanne, the Styriarte in Graz, and the Salzburger Festspiele. He has worked with conductors such as Christopher Curney, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Vittorio Ghielmi, Reinhard Goebel, Theodor Guschlbauer, Claudio Abbado, Michael Hofstetter, Václav Luks, Ingo Metzmacher, Federico Maria Sardelli, Gianluca Capuano, Jordi Savall and others.

Aco Bišćević participated in a recording of Cavalli’s Il Xerse at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca, released on both DVD and CD (Naxos). He has also recorded previously unpublished, highly virtuosic cantatas for high tenor by Carl Heinrich Graun with the Baroque Orchestra of the Thuringian Philharmonic for the Accent label. The CD A Gentle Tenor was nominated for the German Record Critics’ Award. He is one of the few artists who revive historical performance practices and accompanies himself through Europe at the piano in song recitals.
