A Soloist of the Tölzer Knabenchor

Biography

Founded by Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden in 1956 and currently under the artistic direction of Christian Fliegner, Der Tölzer Knabenchor is one of the most famous and successful boys' choirs in the world, giving around 150 concert and opera performances a year. Its repertoire covers all areas of choral singing from the Baroque to the present day, as well as all the important boy roles in the operatic literature, led by Mozart's Magic Flute. Soloists of the Tölzer Knabenchor have performed in major opera houses such as Teatro alla Scala, Opéra Bastille in Paris, Opernhaus in Zurich, Lyric Opera in Chicago and Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. Most recently, Tölzer Knaben received rave reviews from the international press for his portrayal of Yniold in Debussy's Pelleas and Melisande in the Bavarian State Opera's new production. Tölzer Knaben sings the Three Boys in Mozart's The Magic Flute at Komische Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Staatstheater Nürnberg and Staatsoper Stuttgart. Over time, renowned conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Herbert von Karajan, Sir Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann and Kirill Petrenko have worked with the choir.
