Biography

Soprano Vanda Šípová debuted at the Prague National Theatre as Helga (Ivan Acher: Sternenhoch) in April 2018. She has performed at the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň, the F.X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec and the National Theatre Brno. Her repertoire includes the roles of the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Gilda (Rigoletto), Ophélie (Hamlet), Glauce (Médée) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), among others. She has worked on contemporary crossover projects (f. i. the musical The Phantom of the Opera and Bernstein’s Mass). Moreover, she has appeared in drama productions (Studio hrdinů in Prague, the National Theatre Brno, the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň). A graduate of the Prague Conservatoire, Vanda Šípová studied voice with Václav Zítek and currently with Christina Vasileva. She has garnered accolades at international competitions, including the Vissi D’Arte in Prague (2nd prize), the Concours musical international de Montréal (1st prize) or the Antonín Dvořák International Vocal Competition in Karlovy Vary (the Slovak National Theatre Prize).
