In line with the slogan Traditionally & Individually, the Czech National Ballet, headed by Filip Barankiewicz, has planned premieres of three major productions in the 2018/19 season.

The first production to receive its premiere, titled KYLIÁN, will mark the centenary of the foundation of the Czechoslovak Republic. To honour the momentous anniversary, the world-famous contemporary Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián has selected four of his pieces: Symphony of Psalms, Bella Figura, Petit Mort and Six Dances. The gala first night will take place on 11 October 2018 at the National Theatre.

In the second new  production, we will continue with simplicity and purity of elegance within the over 130-year-long tradition of staging SWAN LAKE in Bohemia. To date, the National Theatre has presented 13 adaptations of the feted piece. Every new production of the title is a reason to celebrate the classical dance phenomenon. Our new staging will be a revival of the version by the feted choreographer John Cranko. The new Czech National Ballet production, furnished with new sets and costumes, will premiere on 28 March 2019 at the National Theatre.

The third premiere in the 2018/19 season will be that of a production inspired by a literary masterpiece by Franz Kafka, written in 1914. DER PROZESS (The Trial), by the distinguished Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti, reflects the social confusion in Europe at the time when Kafka penned his novel. The piece, premiered on 27 March 2015 at the Staatstheater in Hanover, also evokes and atmosphere of mystery and emotion. The Czech premiere is scheduled for 13 June 2019 at the Estates Theatre.

We believe that the 2018/19 season will provide unforgettable artistic experiences for the Czech National Ballet and our audience alike!
