The Sleeping Beauty – a fairy tale about hope

21/9/2022

Ballet

The spectacular ballet The Sleeping Beauty, as choreographed by the legendary prima ballerina Márcia Haydée to P. I. Tchaikovsky’s subtle music, is returning to the State Opera in Prague. Based on Charles Perroult’s fairy tale, it retells the story of Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré, a story of an inner path to love, affected by forces of Good and Evil. The magnificent spectacle harmonically blends music, choreography, impressive sets and costumes, splendid lighting design and brilliant performances of soloists and corps.

Series of performances
24 September, 2 pm and 7 pm
25 September, 6 pm
28 September, 7 pm
1 October, 2 pm and 7 pm

Who will be performing the lead roles?
There are three pairs of dancers cast in the principal roles, alternating in the parts of Princess Aurora and Prince Desiré:
Alina Nanu and Paul Irmatov (24 September, 2 pm; 25 September, 6 pm)
Ayaka Fujii and Federico Ievoli (24 September, 7 pm; 1 October, 2 pm)
Nikola Márová and Patrik Holeček (28 September and 1 October, 7 pm)
Those who keep a keen eye on the Czech National Ballet will certainly be intrigued by the fact that on 24 September at 2 pm our new first soloist, Romina Contreras, will make her debut in the role of the Lilac Fairy (the next show she will appear in will be on 25 September). We also wish good luck to Paul Irmatov, who will debut in the role of Prince Desiré.

Lecture on the production and autograph session
The first performance of the series, on 24 September at 2 pm, will be preceded by a talk on the production. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the lead performers within an autograph session during the first intermission. Both will take place at the Angelo Neumann lounge on the dress circle. Come to familiarise yourself with the conception of Márcia Haydée’s choreography, or to receive a precious autograph as a memory of pleasant time spent at the theatre.
