Ballet

Join us for an unforgettable cultural experience: on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., tune in to a live broadcast of the ballet Scheherazade from the National Theatre in Prague.
This special transmission is presented in partnership with Czech Television, the French network Mezzo, and Medici.tv.

About the Performance

The full-length original ballet Scheherazade was created especially for the National Theatre Ballet. Mauro Bigonzetti, together with a team of distinguished Italian artists, has crafted a production of remarkable visual scope — inspired by the mystique of Persia and enriched by his distinctive and graceful choreographic language.

The musical foundation of the work is Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite Scheherazade, which has captivated audiences and artists alike since its premiere in 1888.
The character of Scheherazade, known from The Thousand and One Nights, embodies an archetype that has inspired art across cultures and centuries. Rimsky-Korsakov’s suite and Mikhail Fokine’s 1910 ballet interpretation have both become classics — and now, choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti offers his own vision, focusing on the two central figures: King Shahryar and Scheherazade. Through them, he explores the masculine and feminine principles — their conflict, mistrust, reconciliation, and the emergence of balance and genuine connection.

Though Scheherazade’s story unfolds in ancient Persia, its message transcends time and place. It speaks to deeply human themes, passed down through generations, constantly reshaped by the spirit of each era.

Blending elements of neoclassical and contemporary dance, the ballet captivates with its striking projections, evocative lighting design, and expressive costumes — all amplifying the emotional tension of the story.

The performance runs approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, without intermission. Recommended age: 15+.
