April 29 is a “dance Thursday”. As part of the world-wide celebration of the International Dance Day, the Czech National Ballet presents the Czech premiere of The Sleeping Beauty by Márcia Haydée online on YouTube. Apart from offering this grand classical ballet we invite you to watch an exclusive online interview with the choreographer and Filip Barankiewicz, the Artistic Director of The Czech National Ballet. “Preparing my Sleeping Beauty with this company was a gift for me,” says Márcia in the interview. We would like to share the same emotion with you, offer you beauty and unforgettable artistic experience.

• The Czech premiere of Márcia Haydée’s The Sleeping Beauty will be presented exclusively on the Czech National Ballet’s official YouTube channel on Thursday 29 April 2021 at 19.00.
• The recording of the choreography will be available on YouTube for seven days from 29 April until 5 May 2021, free of charge.
• An online interview with Márcia Haydée will appear on our official YouTube channel on the day of the premiere – 29 April 2021 at 14.00.
• This will be the Czech National Ballet’s contribution to the celebration marking the International Dance Day 2021.

International Dance Day
This occasion has been celebrated worldwide since 1982, on 29 April, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727–1810), a great ballet reformer dubbed by his contemporaries the “Shakespeare of Dance”. This year too, we will celebrate dance as a universal, enormously diverse art form. The Czech National Ballet will join the celebration taking part in an online ballet GALA presenting a pre-premiere of the Bluebird and Princess Florine pas de deux from The Sleeping Beauty.

The National Theatre feels immensely honoured that Márcia Haydée has come to Prague to prepare in person the new production of her choreography with the Czech National Ballet dancers. Her visit was an exceptional cultural event, also serving as a prime example of tenacity and artistic involvement amid the coronavirus pandemic. We are greatly pleased to offer you an online interview with Márcia Haydée that was created during Márcia’s stay in the Czech Republic while she was preparing her Sleeping Beauty in the State Opera in March 2021.
