22/8/2019

Opera

In October the National Theatre will stage the very first Czech production of the contemporary opera Lolita, based on Vladimir Nabokov’s celebrated novel. Almost four decades following the book’s publication, it was created by the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin.

The opera, depicting a multi-layered story blending the subjects of lust, love and sin, will be presented in Czech premiere! The first Czech production of Shchedrin’s Lolita has been created for the National Theatre and State Opera audience by the acclaimed Slovak stage director and performance artist Sláva Daubnerová, who is renowned for her to ability to interpret (not only) 20th-century operas in a singular way. The esteemed Slovak set designer Boris Kudlička will afford the production a suggestible and provocative visual attractiveness.

Premiere performances: 3 and 5 October 2019.
