Change in the cast in performances of Aida and Turandot

9/4/2018

We are obliged to inform you of changes in the cast in performances of the operas Aida, on 11 April, and Turandot, on 17 and 24 April.
By reason of having fallen ill, the tenor Yusif Eyvazov will not be able to appear at the National Theatre, as scheduled. The other guest soloists, whom we have invited to perform in the productions, are brilliant singers, possessing ample international experience from prominent opera stages worldwide.

On 11 April, Radames in Aida will be portrayed by the Korean tenor James Lee, who has previously appeared in the role at the Cairo Opera,
at the Schwerin Castle Festival, as well as in Zeffirelli’s production of Aida at the State Opera in Georgia. Furthermore, he has performed as Calaf in Turandot at the Oper Graz and as Riccardo in Un ballo in maschera at the Saarländische Staatstheater in Saarbrücken.

The title role in the performance of Aida on 11 April will be sung by Adina Aaron, one of the most promising contemporary spinto sopranos, who will give her debut at the National Theatre. Over the past few years, she has earned great praise for her accounts of Aida, Tosca, Leonore, Luisa Miller and Lady Macbeth, at the Theater an der Wien, at the opera houses in Brussels, Washington, Marseille, Cologne and Stuttgart, as well as at prestigious festivals, including in Savonlinna and the Maifestspiele in Wiesbaden. Highly critically acclaimed too has been her portrayal of the title role in a new adaption of Aida at La Monnaie Bruxelles. In the 2017/18 season, she performed in the production of Le dernier jour d‘un condamné at the Opéra de Marseille opposite Roberto Alagna, and debuted as Norma and Amelia at the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden. Moreover, she has portrayed the lead female part in Treemonisha at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and the title role in Franco Zeffirelli’s new production of Aida at the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini Busseto, which was broadcast by RAI throughout Europe and released on DVD.
On 11 April, the role of Amneris will be performed by the internationally renowned Czech singer Eva Urbanová.

In the performances of Turandot on 17 and 24 April, Yusif Eyvazov, scheduled to appear as Calaf, will be replaced by the Korean tenor Sung Kyu Park. He has performed the pivotal characters of the Verdi repertoire on the most prestigious opera stages in Europe, including the Royal Opera House in London, where he has portrayed Calaf, and the Arena di Verona. The part of Princess Turandot will be sung by Anda-Louise Bogza,
a superlative soprano of Romanian origin, who has dazzled audiences at the Arena di Verona, the Semperoper in Dresden and other prominent stages all around the world.

We wish you wonderful artistic experiences.
