The State Opera in Prague, which reopened on 5 January 2020 following its general refurbishment, has a fascinating history. Originally housing the Neues deutches Theater, it was built in the late 1880s by the German community in Prague in response to the construction of the Czech National Theatre, as well as due to the necessity for a larger venue, as the then German Estates Theatre, at the time a century old, no longer met the ever-increasing staging requirements.
