One of the oldest and most splendid European theatres, the Estates Theatre in Prague has been in continuous operation since 1783. Its construction was initiated by Count Franz Anton Nostitz-Rieneck, an enlightened aristocrat driven by the ambition to further beautify his native city and uplift the souls of its inhabitants. Inscribed above the portal is the motto Patriae et Musis (To the Homeland and the Muses), which attests to the grandiosity of the founder’s initial intention and which has maintained its validity to the present day.   

The magnet depicts the theatre’s engrossing, yet practically designed auditorium. Did you know that the original blue, gold and white décor was only renewed during the Estates Theatre’s revamp in the 1980s? In the middle of the 19th century the blue was replaced by the red.
